Hoodlums set Lagos market on fire 

…Police take action

CITIZENS COMPASS–Suspected hoodlums have set fire to many shops at the Ile-Epo-Oke-Odo market thereby displacing some traders in the market.

Goods worth Millions of Naira were reduced to ashes during a supremacy battle by the hoodlums.

This occurred on Wednesday night and continued on Thursday.
However, 50 and suspects have been apprehended in connection with the matter.

The hoodlums were said to have prevented firefighters from operating at the scene.

Eye witnesses’ accounts SA d Police presence dispersed the hoodlums who later regrouped and moved to the next bus stops but were later dispersed.

Clips from the scene captured the hoodlums battling themselves as residents ran helter skelter.

Spokesman, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Thursday, said normalcy had returned to the scene.

The statement titled, Ile-Epo crisis: Police restore normalcy, dominate area, said,

“Following reports of clashes among some youths and hoodlums in the Ile-Epo area of Lagos State, the DPO Oke-Odo swiftly led his men to the scene, and have since restored normalcy.

“Over fifty suspects have so far been arrested while the shanties they occupied have been destroyed, effectively dislodging them.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni has directed the prompt prosecution of the arrested hoodlums and has equally warned that the Command would decisively deal with anyone found breaching the peace, by the law.

“Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Area Commander Alagbado, and other Divisional Police Officers under the Area Command are currently on the ground to forestall further breakdown of law and order.”
