Contrary to the rumour making the rounds that the suspected killer of Iniubong Umoren, a job seeker in Akwa Ibom State, has died in Police custody, the suspect Uduak Frank Akpan, has said that the job seeker was killed in self defence.
He has since been paraded by the Police alongside his father.
The suspect said he killed the girl in self defense and not intentionally.
According to him, “I invited her for a job and I asked her whether she can work in a farm as secretary.
“When she arrived, I told her that their was no farm that the entire farm thing was a hoax. As she wanted to go, I told her I want to sleep with her first. She agreed on a condition that I will use condom which I also agreed to. She became furious when I started removing the condom, and she attacked me. I was bleeding so I needed to defend myself by hitting her which led to her death,” he said.
But looking at his forehead where he said the late Umoren hit him with a stabiliser, there was no wound on his face.
He also confessed that late Umoren wasn’t his first victim.
However, the state commissioner of police, Andrew Amiengheme, said it was necessary to have the press conference because of the rumour that was going around in the media that the suspect had committed suicide in the cell.
“I don’t know anywhere in the world that a suspect will be allowed to use trousers in the cell to the extent of killing himself with it,” he said.
Social media that is supposed to be a tool that will work to the advantage of the police has become something that is working against them,” he said.
