ICPC, EFCC lead at NAOSNP 2025 Security Conference – Calls for unity to tackle corruption
CITIZENS COMPASS—The 2025 National Security Conference and Awards, organized by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), featured a strong emphasis on the crucial role of Nigeria’s anti‑corruption agencies. Representatives from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) joined security chiefs, government officials, and private‑sector stakeholders at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, on October 21, 2025.
Speaking on behalf of ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu, Lagos Commissioner Chukwurah Alexander warned that corruption remains a “silent enemy” of national security, turning “thieves” into “chiefs” and undermining the fight against crime. He urged all participants including other security agencies, the media, and the public to collaborate closely, stressing that the success of ICPC and EFCC hinges on collective action: “If you want ICPC and EFCC to succeed, all of us must come to the table.”
In a panel session, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, representing the Inspector‑General of Police, reinforced the message, stating that protecting Nigeria’s wealth requires a multidimensional strategy that includes safeguarding the fiscal system, preventing illicit financial flows, and ensuring transparency in tax collection. He added that the Nigerian Police Force is now “knowledge‑driven, intelligence‑led, and digitally equipped” to disrupt economic crimes before they emerge .
The EFCC was further highlighted by the presence of its Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, who was represented by the head of public affairs Lagos, DCE Ayo Oyewole. Oyewole encouraged the general public to “say something when you hear something,” noting that citizens can now report fraud anonymously through the EFCC’s newly launched “EFCC Eagle App” mobile app. The app, available on Android and iOS, guarantees anonymity, lets users snap pictures of suspicious properties, and even offers whistle‑blower rewards .
Participants reaffirmed that combating corruption and securing economic resources are inseparable from overall national security, and that sustained collaboration among agencies like EFCC, ICPC, and their partners is essential for Nigeria’s stability and prosperity.
