IGP to discipline officers  for running over citizen in Edo 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS – THE Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun has commenced disciplinary action over the unprofessional conduct of some Police officers attached to the Edo State Police Command who were responsible for running over a citizen at Ekpoma area of the state. 

The IGP said this is in a bold move to address the unprofessional conduct of some of his personnel across the country. 

Force spokesperson in a statement on Thursday, said the IGP has taken the decisive action of disbanding the team forthwith. 

According to him, “This step aims to regularize and standardize police operations in the axis; and restore public trust in the Police Force.

” Additionally, the operatives involved are currently facing disciplinary charges and  administrative procedures. This move underscores the commitment of the IGP to hold officers accountable for their actions which will never be tolerated in the Nigeria Police Force. 

“The Inspector-General of Police reiterates his commitment to ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, while urging members of the public to always cooperate with Police Officers in the discharge of their statutory duties.” 

In a related development, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, has mourned the Publisher of NewsDirect, Dr Samuel Ibiyemi who passed on Tuesday 4th July, 2023. 

” The IGP deeply regrets and expresses heartfelt condolences on the untimely demise of Dr Samuel Ibiyemi, the publisher of NewsDirect. The IGP was deeply saddened upon receiving the news of Dr Ibiyemi’s passing, recognizing the significant loss caused by his death amongst the journalism community and the nation as a whole.

“Dr Samuel Ibiyemi, whose death occurred on Tuesday 4th July, 2023, after a brief illness, was an exceptional individual who played a vital role in promoting quality journalism and upholding the principles of freedom of speech and expression. His contributions to the media industry were unparalleled, and his dedication to exhibiting professionalism and accurate reportage of news was commendable. 

“The IGP recognizes the invaluable service Dr Ibiyemi rendered to the nation through his media platform, NewsDirect, and his relentless pursuit of truth and accountability. His absence will be deeply felt, and his legacy will continue to inspire aspiring journalists for years to come.
