CITIZENS COMPASS—The chairman of Ikorodu Local Government in Lagos State, yesterday, inaugurated the Solomade-Adekayaoja Link Road to ease mobility and boost commerce.

The Citizen Compass reports that the road has a drainage system and street lights and was commissioned by Oba kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu kingdom

At the inauguration, the chairman, Mr Wasiu Adesina, said the road was among the 114 roads approved by Lagos State Government to be constructed in its 57 council areas (two in each council area).

Adesina said the reconstruction of the road was strategic and impactful.

“It stemmed from a thorough needs assessment and direct engagement with members of the community.

“For many years, this road posed challenges to residents, motorists and business owners.

“Its poor state hindered economic productivity, created safety concerns, and contributed to the overall discomfort of our people.

“However, today, by the grace of God and the collective will of this administration, that narrative has changed,” the chairman said.

He said the road reconstruction would ease vehicular and pedestrian movement especially during peak hours, boost local commerce and trade by improving access to markets, shops and services .

He added that it would enhance the aesthetics of the environment and uplift property values.

Adesina also said that it would promote security and safety.

According to him, improved infrastructure often leads to reduced crime and strengthens social ties by connecting residents more seamlessly and comfortably.

He said his administration had handed over the road to the community development association for maintenance.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting local government autonomy.

Earlier, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, appealed to residents of Ikorodu to get their permanent voter cards and come out en-mass and vote in the July 12 council elections in Lagos State.

“As we commission this road today, I call on residents to take ownership of it, imbibe a culture of maintenance and communal responsibility.

“Public infrastructure is a shared asset, and preserving it for future generations is our collective duty.

“Our journey continues, and we will not relent until every corner of this local government area feels the touch of purposeful leadership,” he said.

In his remarks, the Traditional Ruler of Ikorodu Kingdom, Oba Shotobi, said that the road construction was timely and well planned.

He appealed to landlords in the area not to increase their house rents because of the road construction.

Princess Busola Isikalu, the Market Leader (Iyaloja) of Ikorodu, said the road construction was long overdue.

She said that it would boost socio-economic activities, urging the residents to protect it.
