International Day of the Girl Child: Genius Hub advocates digital literacy, skills for girl child 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS —As the world celebrates the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child, a social impact organization, the Genius Hub has called on stakeholders guide against gender barriers and allow increase in digital literacy and skills for the girl child. 

Genius Hub’s Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, Isimeme Whyte, made the call on the occasion of 2023 International Day of the Girl Child with theme, “Digital Generation, Our Generation.”

This year’s theme recognizes the importance of digital literacy and skills for girls and young women, and the need to ensure that they have equitable access to and participation in the digital world.

Isimeme Whyte is a social impact entrepreneur whose work cuts across many youth, girl-child, and women initiatives in various sectors, including socioeconomic development programs for women and youths, community development, girl-child rights, migrant rehabilitation and reintegration and human trafficking, education, leadership, and public service, local content development initiatives, and so on.

She is passionate about promoting total inclusiveness for all women and girls, and she believes that digital literacy and technological skills are essential for girls and young women to reach their full potential in the 21st century.

‘’We need to work together to create a more inclusive and equitable digital world for all girls and young women. This means ensuring that they have access to affordable and reliable internet connectivity, digital devices, and quality digital skills training. It also means challenging the gender stereotypes that discourage girls and young women from pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM),’’ she said.
