Man allegedly steals 1,300 birds in Ogun

… Police arrest suspect along Ijebu- Ode/Benin Highway

 

CITIZENS COMPASS –  A suspect, identified as Abiola Olumuyiwa has allegedly stolen 1,300 birds estimated at N8m from Libro Farm Bambose, Odeda area of Ogun State. 

The suspect was said to be employed by the firm on January 28, 2023 and the birds were kept in his care, unfortunately the firm was mismanaged. 

It was learnt that on August 11, 2023, when the fowls were counted, the director of the firm discovered that about 1,300 birds valued at ₦8m Naira could not be accounted for. 

The farm director was pained at the enormous havoc done to the poultry farm in reference to the harsh economic situation. 

Irked by the development, he lodged the complaint with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Odeda, CSP Kola Akande. 

The suspect whose response was negative when asked if any death or disease occurred at the firm was arrested by the Police. 

Confirming the arrest, spokesperson, Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola said, “A Preliminary investigation has commenced and the suspect has been apprehended and presently in police custody to ascertain the extent or varracity of Abiola’s theft, if he was stealing from the poultry farm and selling or eating them, all that will be made known soon to members of the public. 

“The Commissioner of Police CP Alamutu Biodun Mustapha has been briefed he has ordered for more information within and around the poultry to the Police so as  to the root of the matter.”

Similarly, the Odeda Division of the State Command, has arrested one Semiu Shobakin “m”  20yrs, who was brought to the station by one comrade Ojerinde Opeoluwa “m” of Agbekoya Solidarity Movement of Nigeria. 

He was arrested on August 13,  2023.

The suspect was in possession of a dismantled unregistered Bajaj motorcycle, single barrel gun, Two Dane guns and Tiger generating set as at the time of arrest. 

The spokesperson said, “The suspect has not been able to give meaningful answers to the questions put across to him, by CSP Waheed Oni the DPO, to ascertain how the items got to his possession, he only muttered that one Mathew surname yet unknown brought the items to him. Until he is able to State accurately the source of the items, the matter will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweeran for discreet investigation.”

Another arrest made by the Command was that of 33 years old Owonikoko Akeem who was apprehended along Sagamu-Ijebu Ode/Benin Highway at about 0030hrs in a 24-hr operation led by ACP Omosanyi Adeniyi, the Area Commander of Ijebu Ode area of the State. 

The spokesperson said of the arrest, “Akeem was sighted in a Toyota Camry driving inwards Ijebu Ode from Ososa, as soon as he sighted the Police while trying to negotiate the Ijebu Ode highway, he diverted into a close. 

” The Police chased after him, but all the occupants scampered into the bush, the ACP divided the team into a cardinal search during which, a disguised man on VGN uniform  who was the mastermind of several nefarious crime, attempted to out smart the Policemen, but he was arrested. 

“On searching the vehicle he earlier abandoned, a black cellophane bag containing 32 expended cartridges, 78 live cartridges and a locally fabricated shotgun were recovered.”

He said a search warrant was also executed at his residence, another Magnum Pump action rifle, a double barrel shotgun and  locally fabricated double barrel pistol were among other exhibits recovered.
