CITIZENS COMPASS— Some yet-to-be identified men have reportedly shot a man dead in Baiyeku, Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area  Ikorodu Division, Lagos State.

Citizens Compass reports that the incident occurred yesterday, at about 9.p.m.

The deceased, a resident of Igbogbo was said to have gone to Baiyeku to attend the candle light procession of his friend, simply identified as Hakeem a.k.a Zobo when he was gunned down behind the public primary school in the area.

Eye witnesses’ accounts said the deceased who was dressed in an African attire suddenly excused himself from the venue of the event and headed straight behind the primary school oblivious of what would happen.

Narrating the incident on Monday, a resident, Sessou Yerin, said the sound of gunshots were heard shortly after a power outage in the area.

“I was in front of my house when there was a power outage and the next was gunshots but I didn’t know what brought about that and I quickly ran inside.

“We later heard that someone had been shot dead with his arm and legs chopped off. “

When Citizens Compass visited the scene, residents said the assailants came through the water and first of all vandalised some stationery vehicles before descending on the deceased and rained pellets on him.

A resident, Madam Aisenatu Iskilu, said the deceased was later found lying helpless in the pool of his own blood. “Some youths rushed to the scene but the deed was done and the assailants were nowhere to be found.

“A six year old girl , Tayin, who was in front of her house was slightly injured while scampering for safety. She was rushed to the hospital.”

In a chat with Citizens Compass, the father of the six-year-old girl, Kwatonu Moses, said the girl was medically treated at a private hospital.

Citizens Compass reported that similar incidents have occurred in the past where some people including a 70-year-old resident have been shot dead.

It was learnt that while the assailants were trying to escape, they abandoned the lifeless body but picked the dismembered arm and leg and hung it somewhere in the community as people besieged the area to catch a glimpse.

Some residents linked the incident to cultism activities calling on the government to nip it in the bud

It was learnt that family and friends of the deceased have taken his body away.

As at the time of filing this report, the cellphone of Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, was busy when Citizens Compass contacted him.
