CITIZENS COMPASS— Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has demanded the arrest and prosecution of a primary school headteacher whose pupils were captured speaking in tongues.

Olayinka’s demand followed a video capturing the pupils praying in tongues during school hours went viral.

The Minister’s aide shared the footage on his X Handle formerly known as Twitter.

The video captured the primary school pupils gathered inside a classroom during what appeared to be a religious revival led by a visiting clergyman.

In the video, some of the pupils could be seen crying, screaming and praying in tongues while the programme was underway.

Reacting to the footage, Olayinka criticised the decision to allow the religious activity to take place during formal school hours.

He called for the headmaster to be arrested and prosecuted, arguing that the school leadership should be held responsible for permitting the programme on the school premises and allowing it to disrupt academic activities.

The video has since generated mixed reactions online. While some users supported Olayinka’s position, others questioned whether the focus should also be on the physical condition of the school and other challenges affecting the pupils.

At press time, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) were yet to respond to the video.
