CITIZENS COMPASS— The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, has expressed sadness over the passing of one of its former Secretary, Lady (Mrs) Uche Francisca Akwuobi.
NAWOJ mourned the former secretary in a statement recently signed by its Chairperson, Jumoke Falayi Johnson.
The statement referred to an official statement from Akwuobi’s family which stated that Lady Akwuobi peacefully transitioned to glory on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in the United States of America (USA) following a brief illness.
It reads: Lady Akwuobi was a pillar of strength and a passionate professional, dedicated to NAWOJ Lagos. She served the chapter meritoriously as its former State Secretary and her tenure was marked by an unwavering commitment to the advancement of women journalists and the defense of children’s rights.
Beyond her administrative duties, she was a vibrant community builder who notably served as a Committee Chair for one of the association’s children’s parties, bringing joy to countless families.
The leadership of NAWOJ Lagos extends its deepest condolences to the Akwuobi family and all loved ones left behind.
“Lady Uche Francisca Akwuobi was more than a former secretary; she was a shining light and a passionate advocate for women. Her dedication to NAWOJ Lagos will forever remain a benchmark for selfless service. We stand in solidarity with her family during this time of profound grief,” said the leadership of NAWOJ Lagos.
Burial arrangements, as communicated by the family, will be announced in due course. NAWOJ members are enjoined to keep the Akwuobi family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult period.
