…We are not aware—Police
CITIZENS COMPASS– Nollywood actor, Adeniyi Johnson, yesterday, narrated how he was robbed within 15 seconds while navigating traffic jam around the Alapere area of Lagos State.
The actor said he was robbed while returning to Nigeria after a trip overseas.
He took to his Instagram page to disclose this.
According to the 47-year-old actor, “Story time again. Lagos needs better security than those stop and search that ask “oga how weekend anything for us?” Got back to the country I mean my country and na robbery dem take welcome me, imagine o.
“Thank God for smartness and alertness! If not the attached video would have been worse! It all happened within 15 seconds. I heard a big bang on my windshield and the next thing I saw were 3 thugs all over my car.
“Trust me they were more but that was all my eyes out of fear could count! 1 one the driver’s side and 2 on the other side. From both side I heard ‘yo mirror e’ (remove the mirror) and the other side ‘fo glass e’ (break the windshield).
“All these happened bcos of two mumu trailers with smoke occupying the whole road and not driving on their lanes! While looking for a way to manueover and overtake I fell victim o. This happened after Alapere.”
He warned others to stay alert: “Once you descend from third mainland bridge and approaching secretariat before Magodo. Guys please stay woke be safe. The only damage done is the last slide. God is God. Ekule o.
“I forgot to mention this is the second time I’m experiencing this. First time was April around 7:15 pm. Today’s own was around 11 pm. God keep keeping us.”
Reacting, spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, countered the actor in a statement.
According to the statement, “The Lagos State Police Command wishes to respond to an Online publication of 12/5/2025 credited to one Adeniyi Johnson who claimed to have “Got back to the country, I mean my country and na robbery dem take welcome me !!!” narrating how he allegedly experienced two different attempted traffic robberies in Lagos “bcos of two mumu trailers with smoke occupying the whole road and not driving on their lanes” “after Alapere.
“The command is seriously concerned about the incident of crimes or attempts to perpetrate crimes on innocent people either in traffic, transit, or in the workplace or dwelling homes and that is what prompts this response to allay the impression this story might have created in the mind of the general public and remove possible apprehension that must be caused by this isolated incident. It is incumbent on the command to address the complaints of the victim of the attempted incident and set the record straight.
“Firstly, the allegation of the two attempted traffic robberies published in the noted publication by Mr. Adeniyi Johnson was not reported at any police station throughout the Lagos State Police Command; it is therefore unhelpful and unpatriotic. If his experience or account in the story is true and to be believed, to have experienced attempted traffic robbery, why did he take it up as comedy on social media and online publication instead of reporting to the police for prompt detection of the crime and arrest for investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators?
“The above notwithstanding, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh has directed a round-the-clock raid of criminal hideouts and all identified black spots of criminal elements in the Alapere general areas and other adjoining communities to remove these criminal elements from the streets.
“On assumption of duty of CP Olohundare Jimoh as Commissioner of Police, Lagos state newly, varying crime prevention and control strategies and measures were adopted and implemented culminating in the drastic reduction to the barest level incidents of traffic robberies throughout the state. It is on record that traffic robberies in the state is at the lowest ebb. The constant and continuous raids of criminal hideouts throughout the state has been yielding tremendous results leading to arrests, investigation and prosecution of hundreds of suspects and their subsequent conviction in court.
“While the Lagos State Police Command stays committed to discreet investigations of all cases reported to the police at every level, it implores the residents and visitors to the state to be vigilant and report promptly at the nearest police station every incident of crime or any suspicious criminality in the environment and strongly implore them not to dramatize crimes so as to assist the police in its paramount duty of protection of life and properties of every citizen.
“However Mr. Adeniyi Johnson is implored in public interest to report the details and account of what he experienced at the nearest police station to enable the police to identify the scene of the incidents and prevent such occurrences.
“The media as critical partners in security are highly appreciated for the reports but are enjoined to go beyond reporting to further investigate allegations before going to the press to avoid and prevent unnecessary fear and apprehension on the public. Members of the public are hereby enjoined to go about their duties and other responsibilities without fear or apprehension as the incident is being investigated.”
