CITIZENS COMPASS— Residents of Ologolo town in Lekki area of Lagos State have sent a Save Our Soul message to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo – Olu over what they described as the constant menace of land grabbing.

The community warned that if nothing is timely done, Ologolo town may become a killing, lawless zone where gangsters allegedly encouraged by the traditional leader, Baale Kolawole Ologolo, are their backbone.

According to them, there are two abandoned plots of land which are being occupied illegally by some northerners, warning that the place may be a ready place for hoodlums.

They alleged in the SOS message to the Governor that the suspected landgrabbers are being supported and emboldened by the Baale of Ologolo, Kolawole Ologolo, who they claim gets ‘returns’ from the boys. The Baale also boasted about the support of Elegushi.

It was gathered that recently, an indigene of Edo State popularly known as Leo who was returning to his residence in the night and hailed by the suspected landgrabbers was attacked for refusing to part ways with money.

It was learnt that he was escorted home and his property destroyed.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, a representative of the community, the Olori Ekun of Olowogbowo, Prince Uthman Shodipe – Dosunmu said, “the young man, Leo whose head was broken with iron and was threatened not to talk to the police by the Baale has since not recovered from the physical assault carried out against him. He has abandoned his multimillion naira property to protect his life”.

He said what makes the matter worse is that the young man, Mr Leo, is not a Yoruba man, saying this may fuel an ethnic dispute in the town.

He said the victim is suffering from the harrowing experience and is living in fear of the unknown.

“He has constant migraine headaches and mental confusion because they broke his head with an iron bar . Is this the Nigeria we all want to live in peacefully ?”, Shodipe -Dosummu asked

Though it was gathered that the incident has been reported to the Nigerian Police, the community leader said they still want the media to help them bring the matter to the attention of the State Government.

It was alleged that the Omoonile led by one Gafar and Mutiu are relying on the support of the Baale of Ologolo, Kolawole Ologolo and this makes them behave unlawfully.

Prince Uthman Shodipe – Dosunmu said Lagos State Government should act fast before Ologolo town in Lekki becomes a killing zone.

“The Baale and this lawless gang should be arrested immediately”, Shodipe – Dosunmu said.

At press time, efforts to reach Baale of Ologolo, Chief Kolawole Ologolo, were unsuccessful.
