CITIZENS COMPASS— A Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, is dead.
Orbih was the national vice-chairman, South-South of the Nyesom Wike inspired faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
His death was announced in a statement issued by the family on Tuesday. He reportedly died on Monday, August 31, 2026 according to a statement issued by Francis Orbih on behalf of the family.
One of the most notable political actors to have come out of the country.
He was pivotal to the political dominance of Wike in the South-South, having conducted the consequential PDP congress that tilted the balance of power from Rotimi Amaechi to Wike in 2013.
Orbih who dominated the political landscape in Edo State helped the party even as an opposition party to win National Assembly and presidential elections even at the peak of Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s hold on the state.
Announcing the death of Orbih, a family member, Francis Orbih Esq wrote: “With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the almighty God, the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih announced the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, who passed away on Monday, 31 August 2026.
“He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih; his children, Ms. Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; as well as other members of the extended family.
“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss.
