CITIZENS COMPASS— The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has revealed how some rumour mongers planned to cause division between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Shettima, the plot was uncovered shortly after their swearing-in, in 2023.

The Vice President said the rumour mongers alleged him of a planned assassination attempt on Tinubu.

Though he did not reveal the identity of the rumour mongers, he said they were suspected to be from his State of origin, Borno.

Shettima disclosed this on Tuesday, in Abuja,  at the public presentation of “My Life of Duty and Allegiance,” an autobiography authored by former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon.

Recounting the incident, Shettima said Tinubu confronted him with the claim but dismissed it after finding inconsistencies in the narrative.

“Three months after we were sworn in, some people went to the President and told him I was planning to kill him and take over the government.

“The President told them their story did not add up. He said when I gave him those clothes, I was not even certain to become the vice-presidential candidate, and he himself was still an aspirant.

“He wore the clothes because he is not fetish.

We must learn to be our brother’s keeper, not merchants of division.
