Police declares traditional leader wanted

CITIZENS COMPASS– Lagos State Police Command has declared wanted, a traditional leader in Surulere area of the state.

Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, February 2, 2023, said the command has vowed to deal with anyone engaging in breach of public peace.

According to him, the statement followed the emergence of a video earlier this week showing the traditional leader, Tajudeen Olanrewaju Bakare wielding a pump action rifle and threatening public peace.

A video of Olanrewaju’s action made available to Citizens Compass, revealed the suspect standing near a flyover bridge in Surulere threatening fire and brimstone on some people.

He was armed with a pump action as at the time the video was recorded and he has since taken to his heels immediately the video was made public.

Hundeying said that, ‘’CSP Egbeyemi-led Rapid Response Squad (RRS), working on actionable intelligence, carried out a sting operation on the residence of the man in the Surulere area of the state.

‘’Found in the suspect’s residence were three pump action rifles, one Beretta pistol magazine, one expended 9mm ammunition, one expended and three live cartridges and a picture frame of the suspect.

The suspect, Tajudeen Olanrewaju Bakare, narrowly escaped arrest and is hereby declared wanted. Any useful information leading to his arrest would be highly appreciated and treated with utmost confidentiality.

‘’While appreciating Lagosians for their vigilance and prompt information to security agencies, the Lagos State Police Command once again warns all trouble makers to steer clear of the state as anyone found wanting would be dealt with in accordance with the law.’’

In a chat with some Surulere residents, they called on Police to thoroughly investigate the matter and prosecute whosoever is found wanting as a result of the video.

They claimed the suspect was acting in defense to one of his benefactors over internal crises among some park managers over the control of a motor park at Marsha area of Surulere.

Recall that Bakare was arrested alongside some Yoruba Nation agitators who staged a protest at Freedom Park, Ojota on July 1, 2021.

The fracas between the Police and the agitators led to the death of a sales girl, Jumoke Adeleke who was hit by stray bullet.

Bakare was seen in a video addressing the protesters though he later denied any romance with the agitators when he was paraded alongside other suspects by the Police.

The suspects were later charged to court but were granted bail and Bakare has been incommunicado since then until recently when he was seen in a viral video.
