Police foil robbery attempt

CITIZENS COMPASS— The Delta State Police Command on Wednesday, said it has foiled a suspected armed robbery operation in the Agbor area of the State leading to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of arms and other incriminating exhibits.

Giving the details of the arrest, spokesperson for the Command, Bright Edafe, in a statement said:: On 4 April 2026 at about 0447hrs, a distress call was received from a resident of Full Current Compound, Alihame, Agbor, reporting that a group of about eight-armed robbers were attempting to forcefully gain access into their premises. Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Agbor Division, immediately coordinated and deployed the Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene.

Upon arrival, one of the suspects, later identified as Emeka Ernest ‘M’, aged 41 years, of Ukpo, Anambra State, had been subdued by residents of the compound during a struggle. The suspect, who sustained injuries in the process, was taken into custody and rushed to the General Hospital, Agbor, where he is currently receiving treatment.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one live cartridge from the suspect, while two expended cartridges, a battle axe, a red cloth suspected to have been used as a face mask, and the suspect’s mobile phone were also recovered.

In a follow-up operation on 6 April 2026, based on the suspect’s confession, operatives recovered one locally fabricated single-barrel short gun concealed at a location close to the scene in Alihame, Agbor.

Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, commends the prompt coordination by the DPO, Agbor Division, the swift response of operatives, and the vigilance of the residents. He assures the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and urges residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the Police.

In a related development, the Ogun State Police Command said it has arrested a man for alleged murders.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by spokesperson for the Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi.

According to the statement: Detectives of the Ajuwon Division, Ogun State Police Command, have arrested Abubakar Musa ‘M’, aged 25. He is accused of killing two people and injuring three others at Olámbe, Ogun State. The suspect attacked the victims with a knife after failing in some business deals. The victims were trying to calm him down when the attack happened.

On Tuesday, 7th April 2026, at about 0138hrs, the suspect stabbed five people. Two of them, Gbadamasi Ibrahim ‘M’, aged 25, and Chinedu ‘M’, aged 40, died while being taken to the hospital. A doctor confirmed their deaths. The other three victims, Mohammed Abubakar ‘M’, aged 35, Ashiru Adamu ‘M’, aged 25, and Paul Lawrence ‘M’, aged 25, are in critical condition but responding to treatment.

The suspect ran away after the attack but was later caught by detectives. He is now in police custody. The case and the suspect have been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, condemned the attack and promised that justice will be served. He urged people to stay alert and report any suspicious or violent behaviour to the police.
