ADC protests alleged one-party system in Nigeria
CITIZENS COMPASS—Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Wednesday staged a protest in Abuja, over what they described as a one-party system in Nigeria.
The protesters warned President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, against any attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
The protest featured some chieftains of the party among whom were former Labour Party Presidential candidate during the 2023 elections, Peter Obi and former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Delivering a speech during the protest tagged OccupyINEC, Peter Obi said the Tinubu administration was destroying democratic governance in Nigeria.
According to him“We are simply holding a peaceful demonstration to say that we cannot have a one-party system in our country. It is a democratic nation.
We are appealing to those in government: do not destroy our democracy. We need it for our children and for generations to come. Nigerians must have the freedom to choose who leads them. This is critical for our country.”
Also speaking, Amaechi accused Tinubu’s administration of forcing hunger on Nigerians.
“Imagine a president who came to power and the first thing he did was to change the national anthem… and gave us hunger. He said he would give us roads; up till now, they have not given us roads. The money is gone. By the grace of God, they will lose the election,” Amaechi said.
