Police nab suspected cultist, recovers gun

CITIZENS COMPASS– OGUN State Police Command has arrested one Olamide Olabode, a “notorious member” of the dreaded Eiye confraternity on his way to launch an attack with other members of his group.

He was arrested on October 23, 2022, at the Oke-Iganmu area of Ilaro/Papalanto road, by the Ilaro division.

The suspect was on a bike with two other members of his gang when they were sighted by the police.

The Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the arrested suspect, who sat at the back, “quickly jumped down from the motorcycle and ran into the bush with a bag.”

However, policemen went after him and got him arrested, while the other two sped off with the bike.

The spokesperson said two locally-made shotguns, four live cartridges, one knife and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were found in his bag.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed being a leading member of Eiye cult group, and that they were heading to Agodo village for an operation,” he said

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, directed the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-cultist unit of the State CIID for a discreet investigation.
