CITIZENS COMPASS—The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has debunked allegation of sponsoring terrorism levelled against Senator Shehu Buba Umar, a senator representing Bauchi South Constituency in Bauchi State.
The group argued that the author of the video clip in which the senator was accused is an ingrate, a pathological liar and a professional blackmailer. It also warned against the growing trend of political defectors and opposition politicians facing criminal charges.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday, 11th September, 2026 by the group’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.
He said:
”Our attention has been drawn to attempts to accuse Senator Shehu Buba Umar, the senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, of financing terrorism (https://saharareporters.com/2026/09/07/nigerian-sharia-council-reacts-senator-shehu-bubas-alleged-links-bandits-terrorism?shem=dsdf,sharefoc,agadiscoversdl,,sh/x/discover/m1/4).
”This allegation is false, malicious and vainglorious. It is calculated to bring Senator Shehu Buba to ridicule. It is equally ludicrous, preposterous and luciferous. It exists only in the imagination of his political traducers. It is our considered opinion that Hassan Hussein, the man behind the viral video clip in which the senator was accused, is a greedy ingrate, a pathological liar and a professional blackmailer who should be properly investigated by the security agencies.
”Shehu Buba is a patriotic politician and a serving senator who has no motive to turn against his country.
”It will be recalled that Shehu Buba recently defected to the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) where he clinched the gubernatorial ticket for the 2027 general elections.
”We warn against the growing trend of political defectors and opposition politicians facing post-defection criminal charges. We urge the authorities to give Nigeria’s nascent democracy a chance to develop to maturity. This can only become a fait accompli if we shun political witch-hunt and eschew conscienceless attempts at blackmail.”
