Sultan announces date for  Eid-el-Fitr

 

CITIZENS COMPASS- The President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs/Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, on Monday, April 8, 2024, said the New Moon to herald 2024 Eid-el-Fitr has not been sighted.

He declared Wednesday, April 10, as the day of Eid-el-Fitr across the country.

Sultan said the decision followed the report of National Moon Sighting Committees across the country confirming no sighting of the new moon

A statement signed by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Prof Sambo Junaidu, and made available to newsmen in Sokoto on Monday evening, said the council accepted the report and accordingly declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.

“His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.

The statement wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-El-Fitri,

“Saudi Arabia, on Monday, said the crescent of Shawwal has not been sighted, indicating that the fasting will continue on Tuesday.

“It also added that the Eid-El-Fitr would be held on Wednesday, April 10 to mark the beginning of the new Islamic month

“The crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024.

“His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has accepted the report and accordingly declared Wednesday, 10th April, 2024 as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH. (Day of Eid-El-Fitr).

“His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings. 

“The Sultan while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress and development of the Country he also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-El-Fitr. 

Earlier, the Saudi Arabia, said the crescent of Shawwal has not been sighted, indicating that the fasting will continue on Tuesday.

It also added that the Eid-El-Fitr would be held on Wednesday, April 10, to mark the beginning of the new Islamic month.
