CITIZENS COMPASS— The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has expressed his condolences to the family of Mallam Aliyu Dangida, Chief Executive Officer/Editor-in-Chief of Hotpen Newspaper and Mahangar Arewa Magazine, Kano State, over the death of his beloved wife, Hajia Maryam Abdullahi Gote.

Hajia Maryam passed away at Arewa Surgery, Kano, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after battling heart-related complications.

In a condolence message, His Eminence described Mallam Aliyu Muhammad Dangida as one of the highly effective members representing the North-West on the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto.

The Sultan expressed sadness over the loss, noting that the deceased had been a source of strength and support to her husband, whose contributions to Nigeria’s media and public discourse remain valuable.

He said it was particularly painful that a beloved wife whose wise counsel and support had been instrumental to her husband’s work would pass away at a time when her presence and guidance were greatly needed.

“We are sad, but because Allah is the One who gives and takes life, we can only praise Him and beseech Him to forgive Hajia Maryam Gote’s shortcomings and admit her gentle soul into Al-Jannatul Firdaus. Amiin,” the Sultan prayed.

His Eminence urged Mallam Aliyu Dangida and the bereaved family to take solace in Allah and accept the loss as an act of divine decree.

The Sultan prayed to Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
