
Surprises as APC holds local government primaries in Lagos
...Sitting chairmen lose 2nd term bid
CITIZENS COMPASS– There were surprises at various communities on Saturday, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its primary election towards the forthcoming Local Government election in the State.
The election to field candidates for the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas(LCDA) had been scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025.
To avoid any rancour, the party had adopted the consensus candidates method through its delegates.
It was learnt that some consensus candidates that emerged beat the imagination of many.
For instance, no fewer than six sitting chairmen lost their second term ticket at the primaries.
Also, some godfathers left the venue in disappointment as their prefered candidates lost the election.
The sitting chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Moyosore Ogunlewe, was said to have won his second term bid.
He was said to be returned unopposed as his opponents stepped down for him.
Another successful candidate was Usman Hamusat, the Chairman of Ifako-Ijaye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), won the second term ticket.
Other successful candidates are Olalekan Aroyewun (Igbogbo-Baiyeku), Ladega Adedayo(Ikorodu), Rekiyah Olufunke Hassan (Apapa) and many others.
Various LGs and LCDAs also held their primaries for councillorship positions and this was also filled with intrigues.
The Ward D area of Onigbongbo witnessed more surpriss when some party members raised the alarm that transparency was lacking.
Speaking with our Correspondent in a telephone conversation, one of them who simply identified himself as Barrister Alani, alleged what he described as subversion of democracy during the primaries.
