Tanker-laden with 45,000 litters of petrol falls, spills content in Lagos 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS —Explosion was averted over the weekend, in Lagos, when a tanker-laden with 45,000 litters of petrol fell by its side spilling its content. 

The incident occurred at Ajayi Road, Ogba at late evening. 

There was no injury or loss of life. 

Emergency workers in the state were said to have promptly responded to the scene to avert an explosion.

Road users in the axis were stranded for hours as the scene was cordoned off.

Confirming the incident to Citizens Compass at midnight on Sunday, October 8, 2023, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement, explained how the incident occurred, “Upon arrival at the scene a tanker laden with 45,000 litters of PMS was discovered to have fallen on its side, and subsequently spilling its contents at the aforementioned address.

” Further Investigation revealed that while the tanker was trying to avoid collusion with an oncoming vehicle, ran into a ditch which resulted in the incident.

” No loss of life and no injury sustained

“The Agency’s LRT alongside Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,a Nigeria Police Force are at the scene controlling crowd and preventing people from gaining access to the scene.” 

Furthering, he said, “Sensitization cum public enlightenment was carried out  by the LRT in order to educate the residents on the danger the incident poses to the environment. 

” Also the combined effort of the responders have be able to restrict any vehicular activities in the area so as to prevent any secondary incident.

” Cooking and burning of any sort is also advised against while the incident persists. 

“The Agency’s LRT awaits the arrival of  an empty tanker to commence trans-loading of the content.” 

As at midnight, he said, “Operation still ongoing”
