CITIZENS COMPASS— The Secretary to Oloolu, a sacred masquerade in Ibadan, Oyo State, Oluwo Ishola Gbolahan Akeem, on Monday, said a female TikTok content creator, Wasila, who allegedly filmed the just concluded festival is alive, hale and healthy.
Oluwo Akeem was reacting to the rumour making the rounds that the lady had passed on.
Oloolu is a sacred masquerade whose annual festival forbids females from participating.
Recently, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, announced that all females in the land should adhere to the rules guiding the masquerade but reports filtered that a popular TikToker, Wasila had filmed the concluding part of the festival and posted on her page.
This sparked confusion as Wasila said she had been experiencing spiritual challenges since she broke the traditional rules.
She was thereafter made to pass through spiritual cleansing to ward off the repercussions.
Oloolu is from Oloolu compound , Ode Aje Oloolu, Ibadan North East Local.Government.
Speaking in a viral video, the traditionalist said the TikTok content creator was alive.
According to him: Wasila is alive and those peddling the rumour of her death should be careful so that they don’t face the consequences.
Anyone inscribing R.I.P on her photographs should desist from doing so.
Wasila is alive and currently at her residence at Oremeji.
Last year, she made a video of the outing of Ollolu which was not clear but last Thursday, Oloolu toured Oremeji, Agugu, Itamerin and other places but on getting to Wasila’s community, she disguised as a male and stood at her veranda to make another video of the event and posted on TikTok with an inscription: This was Oloolu at Sokoti area.
However, her posts did not capture Oloolu as she only recorded the procession.
We noticed this and acted on it and by the time she was fished out, she said she had not been feeling well since she filmed the event but in the interest of peace, we hid her in another location to avoid assault.
Although she had deleted the posts, we saved them in our archives before she deleted them.
Meanwhile, Wasila has denied filming the sacred Oloolu masquerade, insisting that she neither recorded the revered traditional figure nor died.
She spoke during a telephone interview on Ibi Aye N Lo, a programme on Lagelu FM hosted by Adesoye Omotosho.
According to Wasila: I am not dead. I did not capture the Oloolu masquerade. May I not be implicated; I did not record Oloolu.
“So I filmed the procession and posted it on social media. Everyone in the TikTok comment section asked me to delete it. The following day, while I was at the shop, they came to meet me there.
“I do not know why the eyewitnesses on Thursday did not defend me. I don’t know who came up with that agenda, but I know God will judge,” she added.
Reports claimed that Wasila narrowly escaped death after videos of her spiritual cleansing in Oloolu’s compound surfaced online.
Reacting, the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the alleged traditional cleansing of a female TikTok content creator who was taken to the Oloolu masquerade compound in Ibadan after she reportedly filmed a procession linked to the annual festival.
Sowore posted his reaction on his Facebook page on Monday.
“I learned today that a TikToker underwent a traditional ‘cleansing’ ritual after filming an Oloolu masquerade procession.
