CITIZENS COMPASS— Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has disclosed that he entered the ministry in response to God’s calling.
Adeboye explained that he was not concerned about material or financial gains but about winning souls for God.
He disclosed this during a recent sermon posted online.

The cleric narrated how things were rough in the beginning before succour came his way.

The former Mathematics lecturer said his decision to venture into the ministry was not driven by hunger, as he had abandoned his Mathematics profession to heed the calling.

He recalled a time he received gifts from people and moments he became a blessing to others.

According to Pastor Adeboye: I was just in the camp minding my own business when an old woman came and gave me a Mercedes-Benz car. I almost said, ‘alakoba wo l’eleyi’, hope this one is not trying to get me into trouble, let us just park it somewhere. But God woke me up one night and said, ‘Son, why are you robbing my daughter of my blessing? I said how? He said, she sowed a seed but you are not allowing the seed to germinate. So, I spoke with my second in command, Late Daddy Abiodun (DGO), who was about 15 years older than me. I went to him, ‘Daddy, there is a Mercedes-Benz car here o, you can begin to use it. He looked at me and said, ‘I thought you loved me, hen, you don’t want to use it but you want to pass it to me. I jokingly said at least, you are already close to home, enjoy it.

Some of you know the rest of the story. Shortly after that, somebody came in one day and brought three Mercedes Benz cars. I said God, what am I going to do with this? I was still struggling with this when somebody came at 2a.m.
Some people said that pastors are in this thing for money, but God will forgive them. I know the job I left to become a pastor here.

I know that even five years after I became a General Overseer, there were moments when I didn’t have two Naira (N2). One night around 2 a.m., a man came with a Limousine Mercedes Benz with six doors, we don’t see the type anymore and he said ‘God told me to give this to you because if I wait till tomorrow, I may change my mind.

I prayed for him and he left and I told God, ‘Even if I die and they put me in this car, I will wake up. Permit me to sell this car and he said, ‘It’s yours now, they’ve given it to you’. I remember I sold it and used the money to buy motorcycles for my pastors…”
