Wike explains relationship with TV anchor, Okinbaloye
CITIZENS COMPASS— The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained his relationship with a popular anchor with Channels Television, Seun Okinbaloye.
The explanation followed the recent criticism about his threatening comment to the anchor.
Speaking during an interview on News Central, Wike said people misunderstood his words and made the issue bigger than it should be. He explained that his statement was not meant to be taken literally but was only used to show how angry he felt at the time.
‘It’s really unfortunate, you know, in Nigeria, people blow everything out of context, particularly playing politics with everything.
“Anybody who knows my relationship with Seun will not begin to rant. So, as you understand, it’s a figure of speech to explain how angry I was,” he said.
“How could you descend so low as a journalist? Instead of you asking questions, solicit answers from them, then you can now let the public know what is going on,” he said.
“For me, I was talking to him, we have no problem, I’m sure he understands everything,” he said.
Wike made the controversial remark during a media briefing in Abuja. He was reacting to comments Okinbaloye made on a programme on Channels Television about the crisis in the African Democratic Congress and its possible effect on the 2027 elections.
