44-year-old rescued as two-storey building collapses in Lagos 

 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS—A 44-year-old man was among the six persons rescued from the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building in Lagos State.

The collapse occurred yesterday evening at Modupeola Street, near Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos,

The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m.,

Citizens Compass reports that the victims sustained fractures and bruises before the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) officials immediately rushed him to the Surgical Emergency unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) where he was hospitalised.

Confirming the incident, Margaret Adeseye, Controller General, Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, in her updates said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at 05:39 hrs and arrived at 06:24 hrs at No. 5, Modupe Ola Street, Onipetesi Estate, Mangoro, Lagos where a building collapse had occurred.

“The structure was originally a bungalow before the new owner began converting it into a two-storey building, which was still under construction, while occupants remained on the ground floor. The incident involved a partial collapse at the rear of the building.

“The situation is currently under control.

“Responding units included the Ikeja Fire Station and Agege Fire Station. Five construction workers who were all male adults were rescued alive, sustaining varying degrees of injuries and were promptly transported to the hospital for treatment. No fatalities were recorded.”
