Lagos partly demolishes Oko-Oba abattoir

CITIZENS COMPASS–Many traders at the Oko-Oba Abattoir in Agege, Lagos State, were stranded, on Monday, when the government partly demolished the area over alleged poor sanitation.

The demolition exercise was carried out a few hours after the indefinite closure of the abattoir.

The state government said the indefinite closure was as a result of repeated environmental breaches as confirmed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Speaking with journalists after the demolition, a cross section of the traders blamed the state government for their woes.

“We are not against keeping the environment clean,” one of the traders told Lagos Reporters. “But what the government has done is anti-people. They should have given us time, especially with how tough the economy is now.”
