School speaks over alleged negligence on defilement of pupil in Ikorodu
CITIZENS COMPASS— The management of Great Kezino Nursery and Primary School in Agunfoye, Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Tuesday, denied allegations of negligence in a 2021 incident involving two nursery pupils.
The school insisted that investigations by authorities found no wrongdoing on its part.
The Head Teacher of the School, Mrs Toyin Edaolaropin, said this in reaction to the trending video regarding a former teacher of the school, Ambassador Rukayat Tobiloba.
Citizen Compass reports that a traditional media had on March 7, 2026, aired Tobiloba’s trending video, calling on the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to her rescue.
Tobilola, had in the viral post said the court wanted to jail her for defilement and was alleged of inserting pencil into the private of a pupil and in the process, lost a pregnancy.
The school, however, on Tuesday gave its account of the incident following what it described as “defamatory narratives” circulating in the media.
Edaolaropin said Tobiloba was engaged as a nursery One class teacher on Sept. 13, 2021, while one Miss Rukayat Lawal served as the assistant teacher in the same class.
She explained that on Sept. 20, 2021, a pupil identified as Victim A was enrolled in the class, which had about 15 pupils.
She said: “On Oct. 26, 2021, Victim A was transported home on the school bus after closing hours and handed over to her father around 4:30 p.m.
“Later that night, the pupil’s mother allegedly contacted the teacher, claiming her daughter cried while bathing and alleged that a male classmate, Victim B, had inserted a pencil into her private part during school hours.
“The school immediately rejected the allegation, maintaining that nothing of such happened while the child was in the custody of the school.
“The following morning, the teacher visited the pupil’s home, where the father reportedly denied the mother’s account of the incident.”
The head teacher further said that the matter escalated later that day when the child’s parents arrived at the school with police officers from Imota Police Station, demanding that the alleged male classmate be produced.
According to her, officers are surprised to discover that the accused pupil is about three years old.
“The police directed school officials to report to the station for investigation, after which the case was transferred to another police formation for further inquiry.
“Both the class teacher and the assistant teacher were later arraigned for negligence.
“Officials from the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the Ministry of Education also visited the school and found no evidence linking the incident to the school.
“After about a year of litigation, the court discharged the assistant class teacher but the school continued to support Mrs. Opeyemi during the legal process, including providing legal representation and covering litigation expenses,” Edaolaropin said.
However, the school management said that the teacher later lost interest in the case, relocated to Ibadan and stopped attending court proceedings.
It said the court subsequently issued an arrest warrant, leading to her arrest and remand on March 10 for allegedly jumping bail.
The school maintained that it had acted responsibly throughout the process and urged the public to seek clarification from its legal representatives on the matter.
The case is still pending in Ikeja Magistrates’ Court and awaiting review of legal advice from the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN) to institute a comprehensive review of the case.
