CITIZENS COMPASS— Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), the Council Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, yesterday, took the bull by its horn to address rising flood concerns across the council area. This included a high-level strategic meeting with Hi-Tech Construction Company, followed by a comprehensive field inspection of flood-prone communities.

In solving the flooding challenges facing the LCDA and to prevent potential flood-induced environmental risks that residents are exposed to, Aroyewun convened a working session with Mr. Dandre Gabar, Project Manager of Hi-Tech Construction Company – contractors handling the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way to Ginti Road construction project.

The meeting was held at the Chairman’s office with key areas of interest as:

•Bridge Completion: The ongoing bridge construction remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by September 2026, having entered its final phase.

•Speed Control Measures: Speed breakers have been procured for installation of all the construction lanes. Additionally, two speed breakers will be placed at every school zone, while interlocking stones will be installed at 10-metre intervals at major junctions to enhance road safety.

•Laara Section Progress: Excavation works at the Laara section are nearing completion and progressing steadily.

•Meri Road Works: Construction at the Meri Road section is ongoing in phases. Work is expected to accelerate significantly once there is a short period of reduced rainfall.

•Drainage Intervention as a CSR: He requested that Hi-Tech Construction undertake the covering of drainage along Oba Molaja Ogunlewe Road (Awotunde Lane), as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), to improve water flow and reduce flooding risks.

Following the meeting, the Chairman accompanied by Mr. Gabar, the Chief of Staff, and other cabinet members, embarked on an extensive inspection of critical sites requiring urgent drainage intervention.

Locations visited were Ayegbami (Olubushe), Igbogbo, Debola Faniyi Street, Igbogbo, Oba Molaja Road (Awotunde/Club 24), Igbogbo and Meri Road, Igbogbo.

Others were Olorunfunmi Basorun Crescent, Igbogbo, Moshood Hassan Street, Igbogbo, Orija Jogun Street, Igbogbo, Victory Close, Igbogbo and Afa Ongoing Bridge Construction, Igbe Laara.

At each location, practical and immediate solutions for improved water channelisation were assessed and initiated, demonstrating the council’s commitment to swift and visible intervention.

The Council Chairman expressed appreciation to Hi-Tech Construction Company and Mr. Dandre Gabar for their cooperation and dedication to delivering critical infrastructure.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment, stating:

“I want to assure the good people of IBLCDA that we will not relent in doing what is necessary. Our priority is to create a safer, cleaner, and flood-resilient environment. We are intensifying efforts to improve water channelisation across our communities.”

The Aroyewun-led administration remains firmly committed to the GLORY Agenda, which prioritises the welfare, safety, and environmental well-being of all residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku.
