CITIZENS COMPASS— The National Coordinator of Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, Prince Segun Obayendo, has met with the leadership of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) and the Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee (LASTCOC) to review the state of the transport sector and reaffirm the movement’s commitment to transporters nationwide.
The recent meeting brought together key stakeholders across the road and maritime transport space, including LASTCOC National Coordinator, Mr Lukman Shittu; AMATO National President, Mr Remi Ogungbemi; AMATO incoming President, Mr Moruf Raheem; AMATO Secretary, Comrade Sani Bala; and VOT AMATO, Otunba Leye Thomas, among others.
Discussions centred on the operational realities confronting transporters, including the rising cost of spare parts and fuel, and the persistent challenges operators face in moving cargo through Nigeria’s ports.
Speaking at the meeting, Prince Obayendo described transporters as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy. He affirmed that the Tinubu/Shettima administration remains firmly committed to addressing the burden on the sector, and stated that transporters’ voices will continue to occupy a central place in government engagement.
AMATO Secretary, Comrade Sani Bala, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the development of a marine and blue rail economy and the introduction of the National Single Window initiative, describing it as a decisive step toward eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks in trade documentation. He stated that these reforms are repositioning Nigeria to reclaim its rightful place in maritime trade and port cargo operations.
Mr Ogungbemi, Mr Raheem, Mr Shittu, and Otunba Thomas commended the Federal Government’s sustained investment in transport infrastructure and welcomed the continued engagement, affirming confidence that the partnership will deliver concrete outcomes for operators across road, rail, and maritime transport.
Both parties resolved to deepen collaboration in the coming weeks as part of the movement’s nationwide mobilisation of transporters across road, rail, maritime, aviation, pipeline, and logistics sectors.
