…Wike fires back
CITIZENS COMPASS— The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Forum has said it would not support any political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC Governors Forum also states that alliances outside the party would not be condoned.
They reasoned that unhealthy alliances could dampen the progress for their beloved party.
Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, disclosed this yesterday, after the forum’s meeting in Abuja.
This was contained in a communique adopted by the governors.
Uzodimma said the governors had not entered into any formal agreement with any individual or opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
It reads: “The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.
“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party.
Recall that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, and some key stakeholders of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, have reportedly held a strategic meeting in Spain ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has fired back at the APC governors saying the Rainbow Coalition was not designed to reduce President Bola Tinubu’s votes, insisting that the group would instead help the President secure more votes in the next election.
Wike spoke during a grand reception organised for the Rainbow Coalition in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
