Adesina tasks council chairmen on people-oriented programmes in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS—The immediate past Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Wasiu Adesina, yesterday, advised council chairmen in Lagos State to continue to make people their focus on governance.

He said a lot still needs to be done for people to feel the impact of governance in Lagos, despite a noticeable improvement in the allocation to councils.

Adesina disclosed this while at an award and turban ceremony organised by the Global Congregation of AS-Samadani family in Ikorodu, Lagos.

He was one of the recipients.

According to him, “This is the first event I have attended since I left office as the executive chairman of Ikorodu LG.

“There are lots of challenges faced in the local government administration especially in the area of finance.

“My advice for council chairmen is to continue to make people their focus in governance,” he said.

According to him, council administration go through many huddles that has to do with finance, “infact we started with zero allocation but even with that we managed our resources to a laudable level.

Adesina expressed satisfaction with the progress his administration has recorded, noting that good governance centres on promoting quality service delivery to the citizens.

He advised the present chairman to prioritise people’s oriented projects and work with Community Development Association(CDA’s) for more dividends of democracy to be felt among Ikorodu residents.

Adesina expressed gratitude to the people of Ikorodu and the All Progressive Congress(APC) party for giving him the opportunity to serve alongside other progressive-minded chairmen.

He urged residents to give same support to the newly elected chairman for more and impactful projects to the community

“Before I left the office, I had laid a very good foundation in the local government.

“We have also improved the revenue base of the LG to the tune of above N300m without exploitation or making things difficult to the people.

“We express fairness to the people to pay and they pay and I advised the present administration to maintain the same pace,” he said.

Citizen Compass reports that Adesina served two terms as Ikorodu Local Government Chairman from 2017 till July 2025, was turbanned as Bada’ Adin.

The Global Congregation of As-Samadani is led by Shiek Yahya Oshoala, the Chief Imam of Oriwu Mosque.
