CDHR condemns killing, abduction of passengers in GUO Transport attack
...Demands retraction of misleading statement
CITIZENS COMPASS— The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) on Friday, condemned the brutal killing of a driver and the abduction of passengers in a recent attack on a bus operated by GUO Transport along the Benin-Ore Expressway near Iguobazuwa, Edo State.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
According to a statement from CDHR, the human rights body condemned the statement from the transport company.
CDHR President and Publicity Secretary, Comrades Debo Adeniran and Deacon Jeremiah Onyibe, said:
The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) strongly condemns the brutal killing of a driver and the abduction of passengers following the recent attack on a bus operated by GUO Transport along the Benin-Ore Expressway near Iguobazuwa, Edo State, on April 18, 2026.
This horrific incident, which reportedly claimed the life of the driver, left one passenger injured, and resulted in the abduction of several passengers into the surrounding forest, underscores the worsening insecurity on Nigeria’s highways. CDHR expresses deep concern over the safety of citizens who rely on public transportation and calls on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the immediate release of the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
CDHR is, however, particularly disturbed by statements attributed to the management of GUO Transport suggesting that no passengers were abducted during the attack. These claims contradict verifiable facts, including reports from the Edo State Police Command, which clearly indicate that passengers were indeed kidnapped.
Such misleading statements are not only insensitive to the victims and their families but also undermine public trust and ongoing rescue efforts. CDHR therefore calls on the management of GUO Transport to immediately retract these claims and provide accurate, transparent information regarding the incident.
At a time when Nigerians are grappling with rising insecurity, corporate responsibility demands honesty, empathy, and cooperation with authorities—not denial of established facts.
CDHR reiterates its call on the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to take decisive action to secure the nation’s highways and prevent further loss of lives.
The protection of human lives must remain paramount.
