Council Chairman promises to end flooding in Ikeja
CITIZENS COMPASS— The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government in Lagos State, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda popularly known as AKOD on Sunday, promised to end perennial flooding within his area of jurisdiction.
AKOD made the promise during a live broadcast on Rainbow FM.
He was responding to a comment by one of the listeners about flooding in the Ikeja area.
The Council Chairman said this would be done in collaboration with the State Government.
According to him, “We are aware about flooding in Ikeja and plans are in the pipeline to combat it.
“We are working with the state government to open up the underground channels in the axis so that flooding will be a thing of the past.
“Our administration is taking note of what is expected of us, taking one step after the other to achieve this.
“We are open to constructive criticisms as we work towards delivering our mandate.”
He noted that the Local Government Autonomy is yet to kick off as the local governments still derive their allocations from the State government adding, “The Nigerian Constitution recognises 20 local governments in Lagos State but the State has additional 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). In other words, any allocation that comes to Ikeja is being shared with Ojodu and Onigbongbo.”
