Cultists injure students, disrupt ceremony

CITIZENS COMPASS—Two rival cultists groups, yesterday, went on rampage and disrupted the sign-out ceremony of the students of Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu.

The violent clash occurred between members of Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the State.

The clash erupted in the afternoon and left several students injured.

According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, the incident occurred shortly after some final-year students had completed their final examinations and gathered to celebrate their exit from the institution.

What was meant to be a joyful send-forth reportedly degenerated into violence, with members of the rival groups reportedly wielding dangerous weapons and engaging in a free-for-all.

“We were in the middle of our celebration when we suddenly heard people shouting. Before we knew it, some boys started fighting and pulling out dangerous items. Everybody ran for their lives,” said a student who spoke under condition of anonymity.

Sources within the institution revealed that the clash caused a total breakdown of academic activities, with lectures suspended and classrooms deserted.

Security personnel, including police officers and local security outfits, were said to have responded swiftly and brought the situation under control. However, it could not be immediately confirmed whether any arrests were made.
