Drivers knock down policemen in Lagos

... PPRO keeps mum

CITIZENS COMPASS — The drivers of a Toyota Camry and a Lexus 350 cars have reportedly knocked down two policemen around 7 & 8 bus-stop, Airport Road, Oshodi in Lagos State.

The Policemen were on Stop and Search duties when they were knocked down by the drivers.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

A source gave the names of the policemen as Inspectors Alabi Kayode and Edukpe Oronya

It was gathered that the drivers were being flagged down but rather than complying, they zoomed off and recklessly knocked down the policemen.

The source informed that Inspector Kayode sustained severe injuries on his head and left hand.

It was also stated that the second officer, Oronya, was “rolled over by the two vehicles.”

Our correspondent gathered that both unknown drivers attempted to “snatch the rifles with the officers after they had knocked them down.”

However, the swift intervention of their colleagues was said to have saved the rifles and the officers were immediately rushed to Divine Grace Hospital in Mafoluku–Oshodi, for medical attention.

Efforts to get the reactions of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

When our correspondent called Hundeyin, he picked up the call, but immediately the reporter introduced himself, he requested that a text be sent to him.

“Can you text me a message? Just text me a message,” he said.

A text message was sent to Hundeyin at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday and another one at 12:05 p.m. A message was also sent to him on WhatsApp at 1:01 p.m.

Hundeyin was yet to reply to any of the messages, nor did he respond to another call made to him later in the evening.
