Final year medical student dies
CITIZENS COMPASS— A 400-level medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun State, Adewole Emmanuel, has reportedly collapsed before his final session examination.
Ife University Medical Students Association (IFUMSA) on Thursday, confirmed the death in a statement.
The association described the incident as a devastating loss to the academic community.
It reads: Under the cover of dark clouds, we write with the heaviest of hearts to announce the passing of one of our own—an integral part of the association and a strong pillar of his class.
“A colleague, friend, roommate, and a Part 4 medical student with an undeniably bright future.
“This loss is not only tragic but deeply painful. We have lost a rising star and a cherished member of the IFUMSA family.
Meanwhile, a fellow student, identified on X as @to37867_toyyib, alleged that the ambulance that responded after Emmanuel collapsed lacked essential emergency equipment, including a stretcher and oxygen. The claim has not been independently verified.
As of the time of filing this report, the university authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Emmanuel’s death occurred barely three months after the school lost a third year medical student, Timilehin Toromade, to the cold hands of death.
The management of the higher institutions of learning announced the death on January 6, 2026 disclosing that it is working with relevant authorities to unravel the circumstances behind the death.
