CITIZENS COMPASS – THE Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti has finally presented himself before the Police in Lagos following the assault he caarrried out on a serving policeman on the Third Mainland Bridge.

Recall that a video went viral on Saturday, May 13, 2023 which captured the musician assaulting the policeman who was carrying out his official duty on the Bridge.

According to the video, Seun and a female occupant alighted from a private car and walked towards the officer where he was standing.

The musician initially pushed the officer before dealting him some slaps.

However, the officer was professional enough and calm.

All through the saga, a private car coming behind was recording the process.

Not quite long, the video went viral and attracted the attention of many Nigerians who have since been reacting to it.

However, Seun on his Instagram page said that he had enough evidence to justify the assault on the officer.

In a press statement, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba in a statement through Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Saturday, ordered Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Omohunwa to arrest Seun.

For reasons best known to him, Seun had sought for the services of the Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, to slug out the matter with the Nigeria Police.

Falana on Sunday, accepted to defend Seun assuring that the musician will voluntarily appear before the Police on Monday.

True to his words, Seun presented himself before the Police as promised.

Disclosing Seun’s presence on Monday, Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin in his tweets said, ” Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative. He has been placed under arrest.,”

He thanked the public for their support, ” In line with the law. The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved. ”

In a video about his appearance at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Seun appeared in a White dress smiling but his countenance later changed when he was handcuffed by the policemen.
