Genocide: Aggrieved Nigerians write USA President, Donald Trump
To the President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump,
AN UNWANTED UNION ALWAYS BRING MASS RAPES: A LETTER OF PECULIAR CONCERN ON THE GENOCIDES IN NIGERIA
ON October 1st, 1960, the year Britain granted a flag Independence for Nigeria after she has forced a contraption down the throats of a set of diverse people with over two-fifty (250) languages and cultures earlier in 1914; a worthy predecessor of yours, President J.F Kennedy was toasting over wine glasses predicting that a great country has been birthed…But sixty-five (65) years later, reality has forced you, President Donald Trump, to proclaim the same “great country” one of “particular concern” with the salvo that it is a “disgraced country”
This declaration has sparked a variety of reactions both within Nigeria and across the globe, with some supporting the statement and others rejecting it.
The basis for many of these discussions is the current state of insecurity, including actions attributed to groups like the Fulani, which some view as an agenda to turn Nigeria into a Sharia Islamic state with the complicity of some government officials.
The fundamental issue stems from the very creation of Nigeria. The amalgamation of the Southern and Northern protectorate in 1914 by the British colonialists, specifically Lord Lugard, was a decision made by a few individuals, not a collective agreement of the diverse peoples forced together.
This forced union has, since its inception, been a source of ongoing conflicts, resulting in significant loss of life, including the tragic Biafran War from 1967 to 1970.
The Nigerian elite from the Fulani, Yoruba, and Igbo nations are often seen as the ones sustaining this unwanted union for their own political and economic interests, often with the silent backing of the former colonial power, Britain.
Today, we see strong movements for self-determination. The Igbo Nation continues its agitation for Biafra, while a large segment of the Yoruba people are now also seeking self-determination due to perceived lack of progress within Nigeria.
The reality is that only the Fulani-dominated North still desires a unified Nigeria, driven by the agenda of creating a single Muslim Sharia state, an agenda the Southern elite are perceived to be following blindly for their own selfish gain.
The Nigerian government has a history of suppressing voices calling for disintegration, jailing or exiling leaders of self-determination movements.
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra remains imprisoned despite court orders for his release, and the leader of the Yoruba self-determination movement was forced into exile after an alleged attempt on his life.
President Trump, if the United States is truly determined to address the insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria, the following actions would greatly interest and benefit the suffering masses:
1. Force the Nigerian government to organize a referendum: Mandate the Nigerian government to include and organize a referendum process that will allow the different nations within Nigeria to determine their continuity or lack thereof.
The provision for a referendum was intentionally removed from the Nigerian Constitution to keep people from expressing their true will.
2. Oversee the referendum process: Ensure international oversight of the referendum, as the Nigerian government is widely perceived as capable of rigging any process. International supervision would be crucial for a credible outcome.
3. Assist in forming new leadership: Should the referendum favor disintegration, help each new country establish leadership from professionals in the diaspora or those without prior ties to the current Nigerian political system, to avoid perpetuating the current systemic corruption.
4. Engage the diaspora: Encourage the millions of successful Nigerian professionals worldwide to contribute to the development of their new, independent nations. Most of the current Nigerian diaspora are not interested in the current Nigeria, only those who wish to partake in looting its treasury are.
These steps could genuinely change the reality of the Nigerian people for the better.
President Donald J. Trump, we implore you to consider these actions. The people of these potential new nations will be eternally grateful.
Sincerely,
Eniola Adio Isadele.
