CITIZENS COMPASS—The Council Chairmen in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State has jointly signed the Joint Task Force Establishment Act and promised to improve the security architecture of the division through coordinated process.

The chairmen made the promise at the Stakeholders Security Meeting and signing of Ikorodu Division Local Joint Task Force (JTF) Establishment Act in Ikorodu Local Government secretariat on Friday, in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Citizen Compass reports that the Chairmen include; Mr Wasiu Adesina, Ikorodu LG, Mr Kazeem Olanrewaju, Ikorodu West LCDA, Mr Olusesan Daini, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Mr Wasiu Agoro, Imota LCDA and Mrs Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, Ijede LCDA.

Speaking after the signing, Mr Wasiu Adesina, Ikorodu council chairman, said that the JTF act was signed into law to enhance the security architecture of the division as well as having a law backing their operations.

Adesina said the Bye-law was made possible through the cooperation of the councillors and urged officers of JTF to work in collaboration with other sister security agencies assuring them of adequate welfare.

“Five years ago during the Badoo era, the six council chairmen came together to set up the civilian JTF to enhance the security architecture of the division.

“We thank God that since the establishment of the JTF, the issue of Badoo and other vices have become a thing of the past.

“Today, the Bill has been signed to ensure that their operation has a law backing them with cooperation from the councillors.

“We will present operational vehicles to them as well as hand them over to the incoming administration which will see it as laudable and improve on it,” he said.

In his remarks, Mr Olusesan Daini, Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku, said the idea was to bring together all government and independent security apparatus within the Ikorodu Division to work together.

Daini said the outgoing chairmen have done their bit making sure that the JTF do not work in parallel lines or in isolation.

According to him, the Ikorodu Division was an enclosed division where all stakeholders had to reach an agreement between the legislature and the executives to tackle insecurity bedevilling the area.

He said that the essence of establishing and signing of the act was to ensure that there is no independent or separation of security outfits that would work outside the law.

However, all the security apparatus in the division would have their Bible and Quran as a guiding document, for better security operations where residents would be sleeping with their two eyes closed.

“What we have done today is a journey of four years in signing the bye-law on security architecture and local JTF of Ikorodu Division.”

“The by-law will bring together all government and independent security apparatus within the division,” he said.

Daini said that the bye-law indicates that there would be a one command system in the division and most of their activities would be done jointly.

He said that JTF officers were adequately trained at the police college where some of them received certificates on local intelligence and promised to engage them more on capacity building to limit them within their confines.

Earlier, Alhaji Adio Saka, one of the stakeholders said the problem lies with implementation and advised them to collaborate and compliment other security agencies operation

Citizen Compass also reports that six operational vehicles were presented to the JTF.
