
KAI commences fitness exercise
CITIZENS COMPASS– The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI, yesterday, commenced its fitness exercise for the year, 2025.
The Annual ‘Scale A’ Parade (head count), a 4-day exercise is geared towards documenting the physical well-being of operatives and determining their eligibility to discharge their lawful duties.
The Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd) made the disclosure at the Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi. According to him, ‘‘as the premier environmental enforcement Agency in the State, we rely on the physical wellness of our operatives across our 21 Operational Divisions and this exercise helps us to ascertain the physical and mental state of our operatives, do the needful for them because this initiative which was launched in Y2024 has continued to yield results and we intend to maintain this course this year’’.
Cole emphasized on the significance of the exercise as a call to duty just as he stressed that the State cares about the life of every enforcement operative and due attention must be paid to their safety, health status and overall capacity to perform their duties to the admiration of taxpayers in the State.
He mentioned that the exercise, which began on Tuesday 6th of May would round off on Friday 9th of May, highlighting how the flexible schedule remains convenient for operatives scattered across the State.
The Corps Marshal recalled how the ‘Scale A’ Parade exercise which kick-started in Y2024 has recorded great milestones by assisting the Agency to create a working document on the functioning capacities of operatives stationed across the State for improved service delivery. He also mentioned that unfit operatives would be recommended for the required medical attention, counselling and testing which has been proven to contribute greatly to the recovery process.
The retired Army Major also reiterated the need for personnel of the Agency to be alive to their duties and responsibilities to the environment, the State and Lagos residents. Also, he upheld the stance of the law on the illegality of street trading via displaying wares for sale on the road setbacks, lay-bys, kerbs, verges, medians, gutter slabs and verges which affects the environment negatively, especially during the rainy season.
In his parting remarks, he urged Lagos residents to imbibe the positive act of proper waste disposal via approved PSP operators in the State and desist from patronizing cart pushers in the habit of dumping refuse in canals, which causes flooding during the rainy season.
