CITIZENS COMPASS— His first 100 days in office were a moment of transformation vis a vis empowerment, restoring hope and putting smiles on the faces of many within the jurisdiction of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State.

Kareem Azeez Abiodun was among the council chairmen that assumed office in July 2025 and within this short period, residents have been applauding his landmark.

To say that he is a blessing to the council development is an understatement as the transformation is evidently noticed in Oto-Awori.

Unlike some council chairmen that have introduced some jimmicks to brainwash and siphon their constituents, Abiodun organised a press conference and media tour to capture his laudable achievements to mark his 100 days in office.

Like a Yoruba saying, ‘gan ni a fiji, iroyin o to afojuba,’ which literally means that one may not have an idea of the exact situation at hand until one sees it physically, this aptly described the transformation in Oto-Awori during the media tour of Monday, November 17, 2025.

“What a beautiful programme to kick off the week,” this was the expression on the faces of some journalists and the stakeholders that participated in the tour as they expressed satisfaction at the three-in-one event.

The Council organised a Spelling Bee Competition where the winner was celebrated as “One-Day Chairman” and rewarded with N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) while the runner-up received N500,000.

The council chairman attributed his achievements to hardwork as he looks up to his creator for more.

The 100 days in office kicked off on a good note and was spiced with side attractions like One-Day Council Chairman, free health check for elderly people and distribution of palliatives for the aged residents among others.

In his message, Abiodun thanked Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu describing him as, “our amiable and visionary leader, a man I fondly describe as Mr. Achievable, Mr. Connectivity, and Mr. Deliverable. His unwavering commitment to the sustainable development of our dear State continues to inspire us all at the grassroots level.

“His vision of repositioning the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) as vital partners in governance has indeed given us Renewed Hope. The Governor has consistently demonstrated confidence in our capacity by ensuring that our allocations remain untouched, while encouraging all Chairmen to make judicious use of available resources for impactful development at their various Local governments.”

Reeling out his achievements, Abiodun said, “This administration is resolutely committed to delivering good governance, fulfilling our campaign promises, and meeting the people-oriented needs of our communities. While the concept of celebrating “100 Days in Office” may appear symbolic, we see it as an opportunity to reflect, account for, and consolidate on the achievements we have recorded within a short time.

Since assuming office, we have worked tirelessly everyday engaging communities, implementing projects, and initiating policies aimed at improving the welfare of our people.

“It will interest you that immediately upon assumption of office, we embarked on a working tour across all communities within the LCDA. This exercise afforded us firsthand knowledge of the state of our infrastructure, roads, drainage, security, welfare, and other critical areas requiring immediate government attention.

“I believe that every resident of Oto-Awori LCDA counts. Our women, widows, the team

have been implemented in ensuring the greatest happiness for the greatest numbers of our people such as monthly cash support for the aged and widows, free medical screening for senior citizens, mobile clinic for the aged (to be officially launched soon), food palliatives distributed to vulnerable groups, formation and inauguration of women development groups to drive empowerment and socio-economic initiatives.

“It is an undeniable fact that when you build the youth, you build the nation. Hence, we believe that our youths are the strength of the community, and empowering them remains a key priority of this administration. To this end, we have organised 16 community football teams to promote sportsmanship and unity during the Ojelabi Football Competition across Badagry division. We also introduced boxing training sessions for interested youths. In order to reduce unemployment in our local government, we took decisive steps in ensuring that our Skills Acquisition Centre is revitalized to provide vocational training, promoting self-reliance and entrepreneurship among our young people.

“Let me state it clearly here, our Local Council Development Area is an agrarian setting therefore, this prompted us to acquire land for agricultural purposes, encouraging youth participation in modern farming.

“Education remains the key to progress and empowerment. In pursuit of quality education in Oto-Awori LCDA, It is this determination that spurred us to have constructed a 12-classroom modern storey building for the nursery and primary School at Ilemba-Awori, renovated Ajewanwa Nursery and Primary School, sponsored free GCE forms and organised free intensive coaching classes for indigent students, distributed free exercise books to pupils across schools. Organised a Spelling Bee Competition where the winner was celebrated as “One-Day Chairman” and rewarded with N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) while the runner-up received N500,000.

“It is evidently glaring to understand that infrastructure is the foundation of development. Some of our completed and ongoing projects include the following: Construction of Jesuwame Street Road, culverts and drainages at Igbonla Shibiri, with solar energy street lights, construction of Baale street, culverts and drainage at Shibiri Ekunpa, with solar street lights, construction of interlocking footbridge and walkway at
