…Prepares for module five
CITIZENS COMPASS— The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) on Thursday, shared its success stories upon completion of its Module Four mentoring programme.
The August edition was Leading Africa’s prominent Ferry Safety Development and Mentoring Programme with the Module Four: Introduction to Engine Systems which LASWA described as a milestone month dedicated to boosting its mentees’ technical expertise in vital marine engineering topics.
Head, Corporate Communications Department of the Agency, Wuraola Alake, who shared the success story on LASWA’s media platform said she was super excited about the programme
Alake said the first two weeks of the module was a Self-Paced Learning facilitated by Engr. Jeremiah Akwemioh, a seasoned Nigerian Navy veteran, who shared his wealth of experience in marine engineering and engine systems.
She said the third week of the module “Ask the Expert” Session was an engaging virtual dialogue with Joep Bollerman (Vice President of Passenger Ships & Director of the Cruise Ship Center of Expertise, Lloyd’s Register) and Francesco Ruisi (Global Passenger Ship Segment Director, Lloyd’s Register).
Alake said the fourth week featured a Practical Onboard Session with MV ONONEZE—an American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) classed vessel owned by Fymak Marine & Oil Services Nig. Ltd.
With 4 Cummins main engines, four propellers, a bow thruster, and a combined output of 5,368 kW (7,200 BHP), the MV ONONEZE provided an exceptional hands-on learning experience. Mentees observed engine operations and key auxiliary systems, including generators, purifiers, sewage treatment plants, air compressors, and piping systems.
LASWA seized the occasion to appreciate the facilitators and all other professionals who were part of the success stories.
