CITIZENS COMPASS— Chief Julius Bokoru, the Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has debunked the allegations linking his principal to an alleged coup d’etat against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu describing it as politically motivated.
Bokoru who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said the former Bayelsa State governor had no involvement in any coup-related activities, insisting that Sylva remains a loyal democrat and a strong supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, the rumours were spread by political opponents trying to damage Sylva’s image ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He, however, confirmed that Sylva’s Abuja home was recently searched by individuals believed to be operatives from the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, some damage was said to have been done to the property.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, considerable damage was inflicted on the property.
“As of my last communication with His Excellency, he was undergoing routine medical checks in the United Kingdom, after which he was scheduled to attend a professional conference in Malaysia.”
Bokoru emphasized that Sylva’s political life has always been rooted in democratic principles, noting that his loyalty to President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unwavering.
He urged members of the public to ignore the baseless rumours, pointing out that the Defence Headquarters had already denied any claims suggesting a coup plot in the country.
He said the security team did not disclose the reason for the raid.
He assured Nigerians of his principal’s loyalty to Tinubu.

Meanwhile, indication emerged that an alleged financier of the coup has been arrested.
