Many rendered homeless as rainstorm hits Ekiti

CITIZENS COMPASS– Many families have Bern rendered homeless in the Oke-Ako community, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, as rainstorm hit the community destroying property in the area.

This occurred after the downpour on Friday, March 3, 2023.

It was gathered that the rainstorm which lasted for over two hours also destroyed some electricity infrastructure in the community, thereby throwing residents into darkness.

Reacting to the development, the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, while condoling with residents of the community, assured victims of government support to cushion the effect of the calamity on them.

Oyebanji, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, during an on-the-spot assessment of the level of the havoc wreaked on the town a day after the downpour, also urged residents of the community to embrace tree-planting, assuring them that the present administration is ready to support interested individuals to go into tree planting.

Afuye, in a statement by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Deputy Governor, Victor Ogunje, said the programmes would soon be rolled out to safeguard the environment and minimise havoc being wreaked by rainstorms.
