NURTW chieftain, Toba Ijaya laid to rest

CITIZENS COMPASS— Tears flowed freely on Tuesday, as Toba Ajiboye popularly known as Toba Ijaya, the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was laid to rest.

Ijaya was laid to rest at his residence in the Fadeyi area of the State.

Family members, colleagues, friends and supporters gathered in Ketu, Lagos, on Tuesday to bid farewell to the late Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya.

Videos of the burial arrangements captured a large turn out of sympathisers besieging the venue to pay their last respect.

One of the mourners was captured saying that Ijaya, during his lifetime, empowered many petty traders around Fadeyi and Ketu.

Some of the mourners reigned curses of anybody who could have been instrumental to Ijaya’s death.

Citizens Compass reported that on Sunday, July 12, 2026, Ijaya was shot inside his car around Fadeyi, along Ikorodu Road.

He later died of the injuries sustained from the attack.

Citizens Compass reported that spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the death.

Ijaya was said to be a strong ally to the Lagos NURTW Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, widely known as “Sego.”
