Oto-Awori LCDA flags off Measles–Rubella vaccination at Ijanikin PHC
CITIZENS COMPASS— The Council Chairman of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in Lagos State, Kareem Azeez Abiodun, on Tuesday, flagged off the Measles–Rubella Vaccination Programme at the Oto/Ijanikin Primary Health Care Centre (PHC), Ijanikin.
The vaccination exercise, targeted at children from age nine months to 14 years, was organised to protect children against measles and rubella and to support ongoing efforts aimed at the elimination of measles within the community. The programme forms part of broader public health strategies to reduce the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) and promote child survival.
Children were safely immunised at the Oto/Ijanikin PHC under the supervision of qualified health professionals, ensuring adherence to standard medical and safety guidelines.
In his address, Abiodun warmly welcomed stakeholders and participants, commending the dedication and professionalism of the health officers and the Medical and Health Department of Oto-Awori LCDA. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the *well-being, wellness, and healthcare needs of indigenous residents and the commercial community* within the LCDA, stressing that prompt and effective healthcare delivery remains a top priority of his government.
The programme was well attended by key stakeholders and community leaders, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Moses Aina Olabisi; the Leader of the House, Hon. Audi Awoyemi; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Mumuni Kabiru; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Tekoba Ajose; and other distinguished members of the council.
The vaccination exercise was conducted in line with the directives of the Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Health Care Board and was facilitated by experienced health professionals in Oto-Awori LCDA. These included Dr. Agbi Olawale Ayokunle; the Apex Nurse, Mrs. Ayandeji; the Apex Community Health Officer, Mrs. Roheem; the Medical Officer-in-Charge of Ijanikin PHC, Mrs. Ogunbiyi; the RT MOH, Dr. John Bosco; as well as a UNICEF Consultant, Mrs. Ogundipe.
The successful flag-off of the Measles–Rubella Vaccination Programme underscores the commitment of the Oto-Awori LCDA administration to safeguarding public health and ensuring a healthier future for children across the community.
