Palliative: Ikorodu LG boss distributes food items to 3, 000 residents

CITIZENS COMPASS —Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, the Council Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, on Thursday, August 17, 2023, advised residents to be patient with the present government  with plans to  tackle the present economy of Nigeria.

Adesina gave the advice during the distribution of food palliative to no fewer than 3,000 households at the council Secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Citizens Compass reports that the food palliative includes Garri, Rice and beans.

Beneficiaries are drawn from across the wards, Community Development Association, Community Development Committee and different groups, Youths, Retirees aming others. 

The chairman said the distribution of the palliative was aimed at cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal, targeting the most vulnerable residents.

“We took this modest effort as part of our responsibility in addition to protecting the lives and property of residents in Ikorodu LG.

“Today, we have decided to distribute 3000 food items to the aged, widow, physically-challenged, party members and other stakeholders in Ikorodu.

“This is a support of the government to cushion the effect of removal of fuel subsidy and it will be done periodically.

“My advice is to people is to be patient with the present administration as it intends to remove the problem do that potentials of the country are re-echoed, ” he said.

According to him, the prevailing challenges are inherited and temporary but as we all know, President Bola Tinubu has already rolled up his sleeves to proffer a long-lasting solution that will bring property to Nigerians.

He said his administration has been seeking strategies to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices on the grassroots ensuring that essential food and services remain accessible to vulnerable people.

“Recently, my administration provided money and gift to retirees to also cushion the effect of fuel subsidy as part of our strategy.

“I commend the entire staff for their usual support and perseverance, especially on transportation.

The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, commended the chairman and urged residents to support the present government as it is working to revamp the economy of the country.

Shotobi, represented by Chief Kayode Olomo, Baale of Ojogbe, appeal to residents to be patient adding that the country would soon move out of the hardship currently experienced.

Also speaking, Mr Sesan Oduolowu, ex CDA chairman said the palliative came at the right time when people are going through untold hardship and advised. 

Also, Mrs Abimbola Obaseki, Chairperson, International Federation of Women Lawyers(FIDA) thanked the chairman for being fair on the distribution and appeal for continuous distribution to alleviate the suffering of masses.
