CITIZENS COMPASS—The Delta State Police Command, yesterday, said it has arrested a commissioner alongside three other suspected following the death of a deputy director in the State.
Police arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, alongside three others bringing the number of those arrested to five as the Command had earlier arrested one person while launching a manhunt for others.
Spokesperson for the Command, Bright Edafe, disclosed this while updating the public on the matter.
According to Edafe: The Delta State Police Command, in continuation of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education, has taken into custody the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, alongside three other suspects in connection with the case. This brings the number of persons currently in Police custody in connection with the investigation to five (5).
The Command has consequently launched a manhunt for the two key suspects, Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education, whose presence is required in furtherance of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, urges the two suspects, wherever they may be, to make themselves available to the Police without further delay. The CP reiterates that the investigation will be pursued thoroughly, impartially and professionally, assuring the family of the deceased and members of the public that due process will be followed and anyone found culpable will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The command’s heartfelt condolences go to the deceased family.
Adeda reportedly died in Asaba area of the State following an incident at the office of the Commissioner.
The Police identified the arrested suspect as Lucky Adoh, while Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine were said to be fleeing.

The Delta State Police Command is aware of reports surrounding the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education, following an incident that occurred at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba. The Command has also taken note of allegations suggesting that he was physically assaulted by aides to the Commissioner identified as Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine, and Lucky Adoh. The Command, upon receipt of the complaints, immediately swung into action and arrested one of the suspects, Lucky Adoh, while serious manhunt for other fleeing suspects is ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, has consequently ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent death of the deceased. The investigation will examine all available evidence, including available video footages, eyewitness accounts, medical records, and the actions of all persons connected with the incident, to establish the facts and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The CP assures the family of the deceased, concerned citizens and members of the public that the command will neither shield nor spare anyone found culpable, irrespective of status or position. Relevant updates on the matter will be provided as it progresses.
